"AM3R" (AM3R)

So there's this person in my neighborhood. He's a cool guy, always giving me flak for buying a BMW without a 3rd pedal. He knows tons about cars, he schooled me on his 5 favorite Ferraris after I told him to check out Jalopnik. I told him to check out oppo and try to get authorship, his dad was telling me he recently got a job so a car is gonna be coming up soon. We need to convince him to get something badass so he can let me hoon it.

Yeah it's a little early I guess. It would make more sense to wait until he gets on oppo.

I need to know what part of the country you live in. Because if it is near rural areas, something like a small SUV can be extremely fun. It can teach him how to hoon off the road, before he tries it on the road.

Northern VA, suburbs of DC. There are actually some pretty fun places to hoon off-road nearby, a friend that owns a WRX took me out on some dirt roads one day and I didn't even realize there were any within 10 minutes of my house.

Anything like a 1st or 3rd generation 4Runner, an XJ, Xterra, or Forester are pretty sound options.

That being said, my first vote goes to C4 Corvette because cheap, easy to fix, easy to mod, not too bad on gas (can even run '87 without pulling timing on the '90 and earlier), actually pretty reliable, and eminently hoonable. Also not a Miata. No more Miatas, pls.

Good idea. I'm actually a pretty big fan of the C4. Only problem might be the lack of rear seats.

I especially like the XJ and the Xterra because they can be had with manual transmissions. I'll tell him to look out for some.

I know there are at least four of us here on Oppo who have a C4: myself, JayZayEighty, Tuned-Port-Injected-Rage, and one other whose name I can't remember. Among us, we could probably help him troubleshoot whatever comes his way. There's also the rest of the internet, too.
If back seats are a need, then I present the third-gen F-body as an alternative. It's got all the same qualities (and many of the same parts) listed above for the C4, only with a back seat, less speed, and slightly lower build quality. The hard part will be finding a manual one with all the other options you would want.

So can the 4Runner and Fozzy. Also, the 4Runner has a biggie that the others don't, available locking diffs.

Yeah the xterra is the easiest to find in a manual. I love 4runners. I still want to pick up a 3rd gen if I could find a good one.
